The Global Medical Affairs Scientific Advisor (GMA SA) will be responsible for leading aspects of the clinical-commercial optimization of the product development and life cycle management strategies and plans with the Global Medical Affairs Leader (GMAL) within the hematology therapeutic area (TA). S/he will partner with the Global Medical Affairs Leader and Team for the assigned products and partners closely with Regional Medical hematology/product leaders to support the development of an integrated global medical affairs perspectives, strategies and plans.
The GMA SA will be an ad hoc member of the Global Commercial Team as well as the Clinical Team and Global Marketing Team, in addition to partnering closely with the GMAL for the development of the Global Medical Affairs plan that reflects prioritized regional needs and which are included in the overall Compound Development Plan. The GMA SA will also partner with the GMAL and Global Medical Affairs Director (GMAD) on the global publications plans, global opinion leader relationships, global medical education (including symposia, speaker training) and global advisory boards for products starting in early development (phase IIa) and through launch of major life cycle management initiatives. The GMA SA will also be responsible for facilitating and ensuring a consistent approach to Medical Affairs programs/activities globally.
The GMA SA will work with the GMAL in developing a global medical affairs strategy and plan for the compound based on prioritized regional needs. Working with the CDT and GMAL, the GMA SA will work to ensure integration within the overall global compound strategy, resulting in one global R&D and Medical Affairs compound development plan. The GMA SA will support the development of pre-launch medical activities including product/hematology global advisory boards, medical symposia and congress activities, as well as coordination of regional activity in these areas. They will also collaborate closely with the regional medical affairs representatives to support the development of an integrated global medical affairs strategy and plans, maintaining open, two-way communication to ensure regional medical affairs is up to date on all plans, progress and decisions. Synchronize input and output of the Medical Affairs plan with the strategic and business plan calendars.
Qualifications
Either M.D., PhD or PharmD required. Extensive clinical and/or pharmaceutical experience in the hematology is required. A minimum of 7 years of combined relevant experience in a medical/clinical environment and/or scientific function in the pharmaceutical industry is required. At least five years in Medical Affairs is preferred. A demonstrated track record of leading highly matrixed, cross-functional work teams comprised of high-level managers and executives is required. Global mindset and direct experience in multiple markets, proven ability to partner cross- culturally/regionally is desired. In-depth knowledge of study methodology, study data reviews and analysis is required.
Excellent knowledge of study execution, benefit risk management and regulatory affairs is preferred. The GMA SA must be highly innovative with the ability to drive results in a complex and changing environment and effectively manage and resolve issues. Ability to act as a medical spokesperson for external audiences is preferred. Also required is experience developing and managing strategic relationships with medical experts/opinion leaders. Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills are required. This position may require up to 30% annual travel (domestic and international).
