Key Responsibilities
The Postdoctoral Scientist, External Innovation R&D, will help research new behavioral science theories and develop innovative approaches for modifying health-related behaviors leading to enhanced consumer engagement and consumer outcomes across our current and future J&J Consumer businesses. They will work closely with other behavioral scientists, research chemists, product developers, physicians, clinicians, strategic marketing and financial staff to develop improved consumer health & wellness solutions. He/She will beexpected to develop a strong understanding of consumer insights and behaviors and develop proof of principle tests to test different approaches that improve consumer engagement and health care outcomes. This will require a strong background in health-related psychology, clear analytical, hypothesis driven thinking, with the ability to develop, execute and analyze the study results. Key to the success of this role is the ability to translate the foundational research into meaningful consumer benefits, resulting in disruptive innovation in the marketplace. This role will require creative problem solving abilities, sound scientific background and a passion for developing consumer health & wellness solutions for global consumers.
This PostDoc will connect by assessing the competitive landscape and current knowledge base through review of external literature, data sources, trade publications and intellectual property. They will shape by presenting the technical findings to internal technical groups, external health care professionals, and support in identifying unique patent opportunities. They will lead by working independently on assigned projects and present the work to scientific, franchise and marketing peers. They will deliver by submitting product prototypes for required testing, acquire data, statistically analyze results, and communicate findings to internal R&D, marketing and franchise partners.
Qualifications
Successful PostDoc candidates must have a Ph.D in Behavioral Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Biopsychology, Behavioral Economics, Cognitive Psychology, Health Psychology, or a related discipline. It is preferred that the candidate have from 0 to 2 years of industrial experience. A candidate with good understanding of behavioral science, consumer psychology and consumer behaviors is preferred. Experience in scientific statistical methods, including experimental design and data analysis is also preferred. Candidates must have permanent work authorization in the United States. We cannot consider PostDoc students who will require future sponsorship. We also prefer candidates who will be available to start their Johnson & Johnson career after earning their Ph.D between June 2013 and June 2014.
