The In Vivo Senior Research Scientist will join and help lead the in vivo group efforts in the characterization and development of biologics that function as immune modulators for the treatment of cancer. S/he will be responsible for independently driving and managing the ex vivo and in vivo studies for multiple research programs across the different stages of pre-clinical drug discovery. His/her responsibilities include the design, execution and interpretation of in vivo studies for the validation and characterization of targets or therapeutic agents in the area of tumor immunology. Specifically the candidate will design and perform in vivo target inhibition, efficacy, mechanism of action, and PK/PD biomarker studies. This will include ex vivo characterization and functional analysis of immune cell subsets from tumors and other tissues. Expertise in immune-oncology relevant models including syngeneic tumor models, orthotopic models, viral infection models, and genetically engineered mouse tumor models is highly desired. The ability to properly use key standard-of-care and benchmark competitor agents as comparators in the in vivo efficacy studies, and to undertake combination studies is highly desired. S/he will demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional 'publication ready' format. S/he will demonstrate the ability to manage multiple in vivo experiments simultaneously. S/he will supervise 1-2 associate scientists.
The In Vivo Senior Scientist will work collaboratively in a matrixed environment, partnering with project leads and colleagues from Oncology Discovery, Biomarkers, Biologics Research, and Molecular Pathology to accelerate advancement of compounds. S/he will demonstrate the ability to lead projects as well as contribute to various projects outside of his/her own, and collaborate with stakeholders from all relevant functions. S/he will keep up-to-date in the literature related to in vivo tumor biology and immunology, will act as an expert resource for both large and small molecule programs within the Department, and will drive adoption of new or improved models and methods. S/he will also demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication, and have the ability to supervise and guide PhD-level Scientists and Research Associates. Experience managing SOP’s and working with an IACUC is also highly desired.
Qualifications
A PhD degree with 5-10 years post-doctoral experience in cellular and/or tumor immunology or a closely related field is required. Industry experience is highly desired. A proven track record in the field of oncology in vivo models, ideally gained in the pharmaceutical or biotech environment, with an appreciation of the drug discovery and development process is required. A track record of publications in the field is highly desired. Experience with in vivo mouse tumor models and ex vivo measurement of immune endpoints is required. Extensive experience with primary immune cells of rodent and/or human origin as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the basics of cellular immunology, as it applies to cancer is highly desired. Intellectually curious and well informed on the latest scientific advances in the field is required. Demonstrated creativity and novel approaches to solving scientific problems is desired. Ability to identify, implement, and master new models and improvements is required. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally is required. Experience managing external collaborations would be valued. Management/supervisory experience is required. Detail-oriented, with excellent record-keeping skills is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Able to effectively present scientific data and concepts to international standards is required. This position is located in Spring House, PA. There will be less than 10% Travel.
