Description
Janssen Research & Development, LLC, a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Category Manager Research located in either Titusville NJ, Raritan NJ or Spring House PA.
Janssen Research & Development LLC (JRD) with locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California is engaged in the several stages of pharmaceutical research & development. In order to further support its expanding early stage (discovery) external R&D activities and in particular collaborations with academic partners, a position for a Category Manager is available.
The Category Manager will effectively and efficiently negotiate, contract and maintain relationships with academic partners in the exploratory research space and interact extensively with JRD internal business partners to meet JRD’s needs, all in line with Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Credo, Purchasing Ethics and Healthcare Compliance Guidelines.
The Category Manager will support research activities while driving the end to end contracting process with academic partners through negotiation of contract terms and pricing, entry of accurate information into a contract tracking-database. Furthermore, the Category Manager will observe adherence to internal and external guidelines for Health Care Compliance, working with human tissue materials and data and working with laboratory animals. The Category Manager will develop interdependent partnerships with other Category and procurement groups as required. Together with the internal business partners, he/she will identify, select and manage appropriate academic partners, and demonstrate value contribution through optimized cycle times, negotiated savings and compliance. The Contract Manager will work with J&J Legal as necessary to review contract terms and conditions and advise business partners in order to reach acceptable outcomes. This individual will lead/conduct contract negotiations on terms and conditions of high-risk, complex, and potentially long-term agreements, and escalate specific points of contention on legal and business issues to appropriate stakeholders including management. The Category Manager will look for creative ways to avoid/solve problems in order to manage the supplier relationship and not compromise any on-going study or study-related activities.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor Degree is required; preferably in Legal, Life Sciences or Business and an advanced degree such as JD, MBA or PhD is preferred. A minimum three years of experience negotiating contracts is required. Experience as a user or provider of outsourced research activities (preferably academic institutions) is strongly preferred. Experience in the pharmaceutical / biotech industry, or university technology transfer (Legal) office is strongly preferred. Knowledge of the pharmaceutical R&D processes is strongly preferred.
The successful candidate should be strongly proactive and an excellent team player. The candidate must have the ability to deal with all levels of the organization as well as excellent communication and presentation skills. The candidate must have demonstrated skills in developing strong business relationships with business partners and external partners and have a track record of interdependent partnerships with internal stakeholder groups. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a matrixed environment while supporting specific teams and/or projects.
Approximately 10% domestic travel is required (including local travel to other locations).
