Description

Global Supply Chain, Medical Devices & Diagnostics (GSC MD&D) is recruiting for a Principal Engineer, Packaging. This position will be based in Juarez Mexico / El Paso Texas area.

Reporting to Energy Engineering Manager, the Principal Packaging Engineer is responsible for providing expert technical / business leadership to development teams and operations in the area of packaging, functioning as an expert in the value stream of package process, trouble shooting, root cause analysis, final package processing and packaging re-design.

The Principal Packaging Engineer is responsible for engaging MDD packaging strategies with the Juarez Campus against business needs in development and maintenance of cluster procedures, and strategies impacting all MD&D contract packagers. The Principal Packaging Engineer will be able to advise teams on issues related to product design, advice development teams and operations on job scope validation requirements, appropriate test methods and manufacturing environment to meet quality, cost and release to market objectives.

The Principal Packaging Engineer will be available to trouble-shoot packaging process deviations and develop short and long term solutions to prevent reoccurrence and advise Quality inquiry on functional questions.

The Principal Packaging Engineer may supervise technical personnel either reporting full time or on temporary assignment to facilitate packaging validations, troubleshooting, Principal Packaging Engineer will also work and oversight several cost effective project ensuring robust validation is performed.

In conjunction with franchise resources, the Principal Packaging Engineer will perform technical assessments on suppliers related to packaging process and products, set direction for functional validation testing, optimize functional operations through development of innovative and cost effective specifications and procedures

The Principlal Packaging Engineer will also develop/participate and implement campus packaging strategies and procedures, lead campus teams to accomplish functional related projects, provide technical guidance and consultation to MD&D franchises and external partners.

In this role, the Principal Packaging Engineer will act as first point of contact and will liaison appropriately with quality and franchise operations to develop short and long term solutions.

Advises teams on functional issues related to product design, advises development teams and operations on functional validation requirements, appropriate test methods and manufacturing environment to meet quality, cost and release to market objectives.

Qualifications


A Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging, Science preferred but not required.

A minimum of 7 years Experience in Product Packaging and Equipment interface is required for this role.

Also, a minimum of 10 years industrial experience, preferably related to the design and development of medical device packaging and/or pharmaceuticals. Use of Six-Sigma tools is preferred. Experience in Package design, materials, testing, production scale ups is required. Familiar with ISO and ASTM standards is required. Familiar with packaging sterilization is an asset. Leading technical projects will be required with supervisory experience as an asset. It is required to have experience in material specifications for packaging. Experience with packaging stability studies is preferred. Some equipment experience would be an asset. Packaging process and assembly is required. Ability to develop and forecast the project time lines is required. Packaging Validation is required. Package process Development is required and supplier interaction is required. This position will require a minimum of 20% travel both domestic and international.

Sterilization knowledge and experience is not required but it will be considered as a plus.
