Position Title: Senior Manager, Global Strategic Insights, Northern Europe

Location: Maidenhead, Berkshire

Travel: 10%

Position Summary:

There is an increased focus and budget devoted to consumer research by the J&J Northern European cluster in 2013 and beyond. The role represents an ideal opportunity for the right candidate to work with a great deal of autonomy in shaping the future consumer strategy for the company in conjunction with the Northern Europe and regional EMEA GSI community

Main duties and responsibilities:

The role will have a GFO/category focus and a geographic scope across NEC regions (UK, Ireland and Nordics) and work closely with hub marketing teams and GSI to successfully:
- Identify and prioritise business needs and develop the learning plan and the most appropriate research strategies to deliver against business objectives
- Drive the learning plan agenda for each category to build solid knowledge estates across foundational consumer understanding, brand strategy, NPD & claims, professional insights, go to market strategy and tracking
- Execute learning plans to achieve business objectives of each category in scope
- Translate learnings into actionable recommendations and integrate research learnings into strategy to drive business growth
- Demonstrate excellent communication with business partners and senior management to influence and drive consumer and professional insights into brand strategy
- Become the authority on consumer understanding for each one of category in scope and enhance business consumer understanding and focus
- Roll out best practice insights tools & methodologies to drive bigger, more transformational innovation, brand strategy and opportunities for growth

- Consistently implement key in-market methodologies (e.g., brand equity, professional understanding, communication and copy development
- Liaise with Regional and Global Franchise contacts as appropriate to input into Franchise initiated studies for Northern Europe and in return to ensure a communication flow of relevant NE initiated findings
- Demonstrate external focus and passion to being the voice of the consumer in the business

Also, it is expected Senior Manager NEC to actively engage with the broader regional and global GSI community to connect and share best practices and also drive GSI initiatives that aim to advance the function and improve practices and consumer understanding of the company as a whole.

The role covers quantitative and qualitative research that overall feed into the development of strategic plans, brand positioning and architecture, business model, Innovation and NPD, packaging, and copy strategy. He/she is responsible to apply the right research solutions to business issues and prioritise research according to real business need, available budget and commercial priorities. To negotiate, commission and project manage consumer and healthcare professional research in areas such as the following:

¨ Insight Generation

¨ NPD, Concept & Packaging development

¨ Copy development and evaluation

¨ Brand positioning

¨ Brand and equity tracking

¨ U&As

¨ Claims development

¨ General consumer, shopper and HCP research

Qualifications


Education and Experience:

- Degree level education preferred
- Strong numeracy & analytical background
- Depth of FMCG consumer insight/market research/marketing experience is essential

Applications are invited from strong candidates working within consumer research or marketing. The ideal candidate for the role would be able to demonstrate passion and understanding of the consumer with a record of progression in their current career in either a blue chip FMCG or a market research agency (Qual & Quant). Exposure to syndicated research sources such as IRI, Nielsen, Kantar and IMS will be of benefit.

The following experience and competencies are required:

- Demonstrable record of progression and achievement in current career in FMCG with examples of how the application of consumer research has driven business results in a truly commercial environment.
- Confidence to interact with and influence senior managers as a thought leader across Marketing, Shopper and Customer functions as well as external agency contacts.
- Highly conversant with a range of quantitative and qualitative ad hoc research techniques with a proven ability to recommend the correct research solution for a range of business issues.
- A pro-active, can do attitude with a willingness to act as both a ‘hands on’ thought leader through own experience in research as well as being able to motivate more junior team members and key external agencies to deliver against the J&J research agenda.
- A willingness to ‘have an opinion’ and stand up for that opinion backed up by insight and the confidence to influence senior managers on a one to one basis and also in key brand strategy meetings.
- Exposure to syndicated data services such as IRI, Nielsen, Kantar and IMS is desirable but not essential.
