Bionsense Webster, Inc., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Staff Engineer to support the BWI franchise located in Irwindale, CA.
The Staff Engineer will be focusing on the development and support of electrophysiology products at Biosense Webster, focusing on Cardiac RF ablation catheters. The Staff Engineer will provide technical leadership for research projects, as well as product development projects. They will lead both internal engineering teams and external contract engineering teams. Occasionally they will conduct individual measurement and analysis of existing devices, as part of product validations, product evaluations and product investigations.
The Staff Engineer will serve as ME (Mechanical Engineering) subject matter expert to support multiple projects and cross functional teams., and ct as liaison between external vendors and the product development core team. The Staff Engineer will mentor Junior engineers to develop technical skills as well as influence skills (to be used with both sub-contractors and internal development core teams). He/she will travel to customer sites, domestic and international, to gather VOC, perform testing and/or perform troubleshooting activities. The Staff Engineer will be responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level, ensuring subordinates (if assigned) follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, and ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
Under limited supervision, and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, the responsibilities of the position include performing or guiding junior engineers and sub-contractors on the following activities:
Participation in development projects core teams as the R&D representative and technical lead. Writing and defining product specifications and requirements, product architecture and design, product performance and usability. Planning and leading design and development projects, as needed. Planning and conducting device verifications and validations. Leading and performing in-depth technical design reviews. Performing failure analysis and investigations. Performing measurements, creating engineering designs, developing plans and keeping laboratory notebooks on all work. Conducting tests (Bench, V&V, in vivo), developing and utilizing test protocols and generating written reports. Recommending and enforcing design for compliance to applicable standards for medical devices.
The Staff Engineer is required to be in contact with BWI key customers as part of the collection of customer feedback for the product in development, and in continuous contact with vendors developing and manufacturing components or products as part of the program he is leading.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required. Candidate must have six (6) years of hands on experience in medical device design including technology or product development responsibility along with at least five (5) years of providing technical leadership on cross-functional teams. Must have an extensive experience in leading projects. Must have experience in development processes and in documentation writing Must be familiar with design control, engineering change orders (ECO), Corrective Actions and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and software version control. Knowledge and experience with RF systems a plus.
The Staff Engineer will have the knowledge, skill and ability to provide technical leadership on cross-functional teams. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to express complicated technological ideas in layman terms. The Staff Engineer will be expected to have strong analytical reasoning. Ability to mentor and guide junior associates. Problem solving capabilities. Candidate must be a self driven individual who is capable and excited to learn about new technologies
Up to 25% travel (International as well as domestic). Weekend travel/work may be required.
Candidate must have the ability to lift 60 lbs. Candidate must have the ability to wear protective lead in lab.
