Crucell Vaccine Institute

Janssen Center of Excellence for Immunoprophylaxis

The Crucell Vaccine Institute is a unique discovery center within Johnson & Johnson. We perform cutting-edge science that transcends traditional borders and opens up new possibilities for preventing both infectious and noninfectious illnesses through immunization. We focus on diseases that pose a growing threat to human health: challenges like influenza, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Our scientists were the first in the world to discover broad-spectrum human antibodies against influenza, thereby paving the way for exploring ‘universal’ approaches to flu treatment and prevention. We are now working across therapeutic areas to deliver the next wave of ground-breaking discoveries based on our innovative technologies and know-how. The spirit of the Crucell Vaccine Institute is young, energetic, open, creative and passionate. We value original thought and defy conventional limits. Together, we dream of a world where people live longer, happier lives in good health, and we are determined to help make that dream a reality.

In order to strengthen our Immunology and Proof of Concept team we are looking for enthusiastic, talented people who have the ambition to develop themselves and can be of value to the organization.

Department / project

The Immunology and Proof of Concept team focuses on the discovery of novel vaccines in the fields of influenza and cancer. The team covers the entire pre-clinical discovery process starting from novel vaccine design, in vitro characterization of vaccine leads, pre-clinical immunology and in vivo proof of concept. A significant part of the work is directed towards increasing our understanding of the immune system and correlates of protection. Current position is for the cancer vaccines project.

Job description:

The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual that will join a diverse team of researchers in a fast paced and science-driven environment with the goal to develop novel vaccines for the treatment of cancer. The candidate will have an interest in cancer immunotherapy, and is expected to contribute to forming the strategy towards new cancer vaccine discovery, immunoassay development, and mechanism of action elucidation activities. Key responsibilities include the design and execution of scientific plans, interpretation and reporting of experimental results, and providing support to vaccine projects. This position requires expertise in molecular biology and an immunology background to design and generate experimental vaccines, evaluate their immunogenicity in mice, and determine the mechanisms by which vaccines impact on the balance between cancer cells and the host immune response. The candidate will have broad prior methodological and technical experience to include molecular assays as PCR, DNA cloning and Western blot. Previous experience with adenovirus vector construction will be considered a plus. Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills are essential and the capability to effectively work in a team environment is required. Individuals with an article 9 certification will be preferred.

Kwalificaties

• Ph.D. or Ph.D./M.D. with solid immunology and molecular biology technical skills and 1-3 years of productive research experience at the postdoctoral level in an academic, pharmaceutical or biotechnology drug/vaccine discovery environment.

• Art 9 certified with hands-on experience is preferred.

Experience:

• Up-to-date knowledge of the innate and adaptive immune systems is required, particularly as related to tumor immunobiology.

• Demonstrated record of research experience in immunology and molecular biology, including publications.

• Expertise with aseptic techniques, including the isolation and culture of primary immune cells from murine and human tissues, the maintenance of mammalian cell lines and cell transfection/transduction.

• Experience with a broad range of contemporary technologies used in molecular and cellular biology.

• Experience with the generation and characterization of recombinant adenovirus is a plus.

Competences:

• Outstanding experiment design, problem-solving, and data analysis skills.

• Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and organizational skills.
