Description

Janssen Global Services L.L.C. is recruiting for a Director, Therapeutic Area Communication, Oncology to be located in Raritan, NJ, Titusville, NJ, Horsham, PA or Springhouse, PA. Candidates in Latin America and Europe will also be considered.

Janssen Global Services, L.L.C. (JGS) is a legal corporate entity encompassing a unique group of departments/organizations/teams that provide leadership across business critical areas for Janssen, the pharmaceutical companies of Johnson & Johnson. The following groups make up JGS: Global Commercial Strategy Organization, Global Pharmaceutical Communication and Public Affairs; U.S. Pharmaceutical Procurement Group (USPPG); and Pharmaceuticals Group Business Development (PGBD).

Position Overview:

The director works within the global R&D environment and reports to the Senior Director, Therapeutic Area Communication Leader, Oncology. This communication professional is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of integrated, global, internal and external communication strategies to support the business objectives of the Oncology Therapeutic Area, including several oncology products. Responsibilities include driving PR activities for pipeline and launched products, issues management, and organizational communications.

Key Responsibilities

External Communication (75%)

Lead, develop and execute strategic external communication on several global/regional oncology brands.

In the case of partnered products, ensure strategic alignment by establish relationships and processes with partners’ communications and investor relations teams.

Develop a unified and comprehensive strategy for regulatory milestones (filings, approvals, health authority advisory board meetings), data presentations and medical meetings, which often involve presentations across multiple brands. Work closely with commercial communicators in the relevant market to create a unified strategy and with the TACL to ensure alignment across brands.

Work closely with regional communicators to provide strategic updates and counsel; identify issues/opportunities that should be shared more broadly. Create materials for their use, including toolkits for regulatory milestones, template data press releases and strategies, message maps on issues, etc.

Serve on Global Commercial Teams and as an ad hoc member of the Compound Development Teams, providing communication counsel to the teams and especially the Global Commercial Team Leaders and the Compound Development Team Leaders. Also establish relationships with Global Medical Affairs Leaders and the Disease Area Stronghold leaders. Through these relationships, strive to align communications with the overarching product strategy, provide counsel and anticipate and prepare for opportunities and issues.

Develop key messages for use in media and investor relations; serve as media spokesperson and a liaison with Investor Relations and Corporate Communications.

Proactively identify, develop strategies for, and manage issues, including issues arising from the brands, the therapeutic areas and public policy, including liaising with legal, commercial, new business development, supply chain, Corporate Communication, Investor Relations, L&A partners, etc. Develop messages and serve as spokesperson for media inquiries

Manage partner press releases announcing new business deals or milestones, including working closely with Business Development, the Innovation Centers and Investor Relations teams to develop an integrated communication strategy related to these developments.

Partner with the TACL on creating and executing a communication strategy designed to build awareness of the Oncology Therapeutic Area among key external audiences. This includes content and strategic direction for the external website, brochures, press materials, speaking engagements for our senior leaders, awards applications, etc. On the website, lead the integration of the current site into the single global Janssen site currently under development.

Manage public relations agencies and assigned budgets.

Internal Communication (25%)

Lead, develop and execute on internal communication strategies for Janssen Oncology to engage employees and heighten their level of understanding and engagement in the TA’s strategic priorities. Key channels include a quarterly newsletter, an intranet site, quarterly townhalls, and various internal initiatives.

Partner closely with Human Resources and members of the Senior Leadership Team on strategies and tactics to connect with and motivate employees.

Create strategies and materials that convey the Oncology TA story to all of R&D, Janssen and Johnson & Johnson.

Other

Participate in special communication projects, as assigned, working with cross-TA, functional area teams and the global communication leaders (both corporate and pharm) as needed to meet business objectives.

Liaison with the Janssen Diagnostics communicators to leverage internal and external opportunities that overlap with Oncology.

Able to act independently and with confidence across all settings.

Qualifications


A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required.
Proven performer with minimum 10 years’ experience in public relations with a preference for significant experience in managing healthcare public relations programs in a company, NGO, government agency or public relations agency is required.

Proven track record of successful public relations/communications, corporate communications, product approval and/or launch communications support and/or media relations achievements is required.

Experience dealing with national and local media is required; experience with professional/ trade and third-party community organizations and government agencies is preferred

Experience in internal communications and executive support is required.

Experience in managing public relations agencies/consultants is required.

Direct pharmaceutical/product experience a plus; global public relations experience is a strong plus

Crisis / issue management experience is required

Ability to develop successful working relationships with senior executives is required

Experience in managing project budgets/schedules is required

Occasional domestic and international travel is required
