Scientist Protein Chemistry and Biophysics-00000R6P
Description
The Crucell Vaccine Institute is a unique discovery centre within Johnson & Johnson. We perform cutting-edge science that transcends traditional borders and opens up new possibilities for preventing both infectious and non-infectious illnesses through immunization. We focus on diseases that pose a growing threat to human health: challenges like influenza, asthma and Alzheimer’s disease. Our scientists were the first in the world to discover broad-spectrum human antibodies against influenza, thereby paving the way for exploring ‘universal’ approaches to flu treatment and prevention. We are now working across therapeutic areas to deliver the next wave of ground-breaking discoveries based on our innovative technologies and know-how. The spirit of the Crucell Vaccine Institute is young, energetic, open, creative and passionate. We value original thought and defy conventional limits. Together, we dream of a world where people live longer, happier lives in good health, and we are determined to help make that dream a reality.
For our department we are currently seeking for a fulltime
Scientist Protein Chemistry and Biophysics – Protein-Protein interactions, Protein folding and Dynamics
Department/Project:
The suitable candidate will be working in the Protein Chemistry and Biophysics team within the Protein Sciences group of the Crucell Vaccine Institute. The team is focused on biophysics and mass spectrometry based studies of proteins, with emphasis on HDX-MS studies for epitope mapping and protein conformation and dynamics.
Job Description:
Our group employs Analytical, Biophysical and Mass Spectrometry tools to study monoclonal antibodies, various antigen proteins and peptides. We are looking for a motivated individual with a research mind-set who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team. High flexibility, out of the box thinking and multi-tasking are attributes that we are looking for. The scientist will be overseeing activities related to analytical characterization of protein biotherapeutics using state of the art tools including: Chromatography and Asymmetric Flow Field-Flow Fractionation, Dynamic and Multi Angle Light Scattering, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Capillary Electrophoresis, FTIR, Fluorescence, Circular Dichroism, Mass Spectrometry, etc. Furthermore, the scientist will work on research projects focused on protein dynamics and protein-protein interactions by employing Hydrogen-Deuterium EXchange MS in combination with other biophysical tools. The selected candidate will be responsible for planning, supervising and performing experiments and also processing and interpreting scientific data. The tasks will also include method optimization, troubleshooting, oral presentations and reporting.
Qualifications
You have a PhD degree with track record in the field of Protein Biophysics and Mass Spectrometry proven by scientific publications and extensive knowledge related to protein conformation and folding.
Competences:
You have extensive theoretical and practical experience with SEC-MALS, AF4, CD, FTIR, Fluorescence, Calorimetry, Electrophoresis, and Mass Spectrometry (intact mass, peptide mapping and PTM analysis). Theoretical and practical knowledge of Hydrogen Deuterium Exchange applications for protein conformational studies and epitope mapping is preferred. Experience in working with Synapt G2 HDMS and/or detection of glycosylated and phosphorylated proteins and peptides is a plus. You are fluent in English. You are flexible in work and behaviour. You enjoy being part of a team, but you are also capable of working independently. You are able to plan and organize your own work activities. Finally, you are critical and accurate in the execution of your work.
What’s in it for you…?
“Caring for the world, one person at a time…”
As an employee we consider you as our most valuable asset. We take your career seriously.
As part of a global team in an innovative environment your development is key and our day-to-day responsibility.
Through e-university, on the job training, various projects and programs, we ensure your personal growth.
Our benefits make sure we care for you and your family now and in the future.
