Description

The Chemical Technology and Process Control (CTPC) group is a sub department of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) Small Molecule Development within Janssen and is mainly responsible for the analytical support of projects run in Process R&D-, Chemical Technology- and Crystallization Research.
The department of API Small Molecule Development endeavors to develop chemical processes for drug candidates at all stages of development, including second-generation processes and improvement of existing commercial process. Within CTPC, Process analytical technology is one of the key strategic areas to deliver reliable processes in time.

The PAT-scientist is responsible for identification of relevant PAT-applications within chemical process development and transferring these applications from the lab to a chemical production environment facilitating new product introductions.

The processes in scope are reactions, purifications, crystallizations, solid-liquid separations, drying and milling.
- Within chemical process development (Beerse, Belgium), you are responsible for the PAT support in ongoing process development projects. This includes on-line process monitoring and data-analysis to support mechanistic understanding and process control. The main tasks include:
- Provide guidance to chemists in using and selecting the right tool for the right purpose
- Set-up the best experimental approach
- Perform data-analysis
- Communicate the knowledge gained
- Keep up to date with PAT developments through literature and scientific forums
- Provide training within the department
- You will deliver an on-line monitoring approach to support process transfers from lab to pilot and commercial scale during scale-up, registration, launch and validation.
- You are the owner of the lab tools, keeping all instruments up to date and running.
- You adapt your expert advice on the knowledge level of the process chemist (basic users – experts)
- You maintaining a lab presence and are actively and personally involved in the lab

Qualifications

- Education
Master in chemical engineering with knowledge of chemistry and on-line analytics,
PhD in chemistry with knowledge of engineering and on-line analytics
Or equivalent by experience (5-10 years)

Statistics (multi-variate analysis, process statistical control)
