Position summary:
The candidate will join a drug discovery team to develop cutting-edge small molecules and biologics for the treatment of cancer. S/he will work in an exciting/stimulating environment across the different stages of preclinical drug discovery (from target identification to preclinical candidate) and interact with several internal and external groups. The candidate will be strongly motivated and dedicated, will show initiative and work independently. Responsibilities include design and execution of experiments and critical analysis of data. Troubleshooting skills are essential. S/he will demonstrate urgency, be organized and be sensitive to timelines. An excellent scientific track record is critical. Experience in drug discovery / pharmacology and/or knowledge of the oncology field, in particular colon cancer or mucosal immunology, is a plus.
Primary responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
- Demonstrate the ability to design, perform, interpret, troubleshoot and report complex data.
- Ability to perform tissue culture is a must. Cell/molecular biology skills: transfections, transductions, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, siRNA/shRNA, qRT-PCR, FACS and ELISA. Some experience working with in vivo models is a plus (direct handling not required for this position).
- Experience in drug discovery is important (large or small molecules, PK/PD, understanding of drug properties, assay / model development, drug testing, etc).
- Supervise and guide junior Research Associates by example
- Keep up-to-date in the literature related to his/her field. Act as an expert resource in his/her scientific field and in related disciplines. Propose novel and actionable target ideas, aligned with internal scientific strategy and capabilities.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple experiments/projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrate the ability to contribute on various projects outside of his/her own, and collaborate with stakeholders from all relevant functions
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional 'publication ready' format
- Demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication (excellent presentation skills)
- Initiate and maintain external collaborations (contract research organizations, academics)
Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Special Skills :
Education:
Ph.D.degree or equivalent, with several years of productive post-doctoral experience in a high-quality academic, biotech or pharmaceutical environment
Related Experience:
Knowledge of oncology, colon cancer, or immunology with a track record of high-quality publications. Drug discovery experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment is a plus. Knowledge of pharmacology is important.
Personal skills and Competencies:
- Intellectually curious and well-informed on the latest scientific advances in the field
- Demonstrates creativity and novel approaches to solving scientific problems
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally
- Some management experience is very desirable
- Detail-oriented, with excellent record-keeping skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to effectively present scientific data and concepts to international standards.
