The NPD Master Black Belt Principal Engineer will provide leadership in the strategic approach, deployment and implementation of Process Excellence (Design Excellence) in the New Product Development Process in partnership with R&D Directors and business partners. The, NPD Master Black Belt will be responsible for developing, teaching and implementing Design for Six Sigma methodology (Design Excellence) into all phases of the New Product Development process and drive adoption throughout the organization in order to execute pipeline projects.

The NPD Master Black Belt Principal Engineer will drive the successful deployment of the Design Excellence methodology by providing technical, business coaching and mentoring to Black Belts & Green Belts in R&D organization. This individual will provide process leadership and program management to enterprise wide initiatives as assigned by the Director of Project Management - NPD. This individual will lead cross-functional teams in the systematic translation of customer requirements to measurable design and process characteristics, for which targets, allowable variation, and allowable defect rates can be established (including CTQ flow down and requirements management). This individual will also maintain state-of-the-art expertise in PE methodology & tools as it relates to NPD process. The NPD Master Black Belt will provide leadership in improving overall PE program effectiveness and assuring completion of projects and will lead very complex and / or high impact PE Projects (successfully complete at least 1 project annually).

Qualifications


A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline (i.e. engineering) is required. A post graduate degree is preferred. A Certified Black Belt in Six Sigma, Design Excellence achieved through a recognized industry practitioner is required. Experience implementing Design Excellence from concept to full implementation in a technical / R&D setting is a plus. A minimum of 7 years of multidisciplinary business experience is required. This experience must include a minimum of 5 years leading cross-functional teams in a regulated environment as a process driver or in a project management capacity. This individual must be computer literate and highly familiar with at least one advanced statistical package (i.e. Minitab and/or Statgraphics) & databases.

It is required to have a proven track record of achieving business deliverables within a regulated healthcare environment and experience as Master Black Belt mentoring and training development teams. Effective written and oral communication skills are required. This individual must possess broad business acumen and the ability to partner with strategic marketing and new business development to assist in portfolio decisions. Certified Project Management (PMP) is a plus. Knowledge of product requirements management/cascade software tools is preferred. Experience with various design best practices (e.g. Design for Reliability, Design for Manufacturability, Design for Serviceability, etc.) is preferred.

This position is located in Irvine, CA and may require up to 20% domestic/international travel.
