The Knee Development Manager, will manage the work of staff functioning in a team-based, multi-disciplinary project environment in the design, development and manufacturing of new implant/instrumentation systems and components for the Revision Knee portfolio. In partnership with cross-functional leaders the Manager will manage and develop the strategy and portfolio for Revision Knees.

Identifies initiates and manages resources and programs in support of product development and design.
Identifies and initiates new product and process opportunities.
Influences the future through IP management, directing research and participation in portfolio decision making to ensure a strong cadence of innovative, customer driven new products.

The Knee Development Manager will be responsible for selecting, training, developing and evaluating staff including Development Engineers, Design Engineers and Project Managers. They will perform all aspects of job demonstrating the J&J Leadership Imperatives.

The Knee Development Manager creates and maintains an environment that encourages productivity and execution:
Provides strategic direction toward group objectives.
Manages the prioritization of departmental project activities.
Manages and regulates capital and expense budgets for department.
Manages the alignment and assignment of resources to meet departmental goals and objectives.
Functions as technical resource to customers, internal and external.
Provides reports and updates on departmental goals and metrics.
Builds effective interdependent partnering relationships with other functional areas, including regulatory, marketing, clinical, manufacturing and prototyping support, etc.
Supports the evaluation of new technology and maintains working knowledge of emerging technologies
Responsible for ensuring the goals and objectives of the NPD Project Core Teams are met through leadership of the Revision project leaders, which leads to timely project delivery in a positive team environment.
Supports employees in the creation and follow through on development plans.

Qualifications


Bachelors Degree in Engineering Discipline, with a minimum of 5 years progressive responsibility experience in product development environment or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years in product development environment. Medical devices is required. Orthopedic implants and instrument design experience preferred. A minimum of 1 years supervisory experience is required.

Ability to prioritize and complete multiple complex projects which result in meeting departmental goals and objectives is required.
Ability to build and manage departmental budgets within guidelines is required
Ability to apply project management skills which result in meeting departmental goals and objectives is required
Ability to manage and development direct reports which result in improved employee performance/satisfaction is required
Ability to apply regulations which result in meeting FDA/Company guidelines and policies is required.
Ability to use written or oral format to effectively communicate critical design/project information to customers is required.
Ability to build effective interdependent partnering relationships which result in meeting departmental/company goals and objectives in a Cross Functional Team Environment is required.

This position is located in Indiana-Warsaw and could require up to 25% travel both domestic and international.
