We are looking for an innovative leader with exceptional forward-looking and out-of-the box thinking quality, who is not constrained to the current thinking and practice in the pharma/biotech industry, to create the next generation solutions for diabetes. The leader will provide a bold vision for a disease interception group and operate under a new business model, is willing to embrace radically different approaches to diabetes with unparalleled potential, and will develop new paradigms and solutions to pre-empt the onset of diabetes.

The Disease Interception Leader in diabetes will lead efforts in seeking innovative solutions to eliminate the onset of type 2 diabetes, which is a critical part of the overall therapeutic strategy in the Cardiovascular and Metabolic (CVM) Therapeutic Area in Janssen Pharmaceuticals of Johnson & Johnson. To achieve this goal, the Disease Interception Leader will develop and implement strategies to intercept the disease-causing process that leads to the onset of type 2 diabetes by employing pharmaceutical or other therapeutic approaches. The efforts may include development of biomarker-based diagnostics, discovery and development of pharmaceutical or biotech agents, novel medical device with therapeutic and/or diagnostic potential, microbiome-based therapies and cell-based therapies. This leader will supervise a group of scientific professionals with integrated expertise in the areas mentioned above and leverage the access to the knowledge base, resources and capabilities in CVM discovery and development, Janssen innovation centers, J&J neutraceuticals and medical device. This position is expected to effectively engage and communicate with internal and external thought leaders to identify opportunities of leveraging advanced technology and pilot new business models. The Disease Interception Leader will build multiple project teams with membership from various J&J companies and establish strategic partnerships with external companies and academic institutions. The key criteria for success may include innovative and unconventional thinking, embracing technologies and approaches with groundbreaking potential, leveraging the knowledge and know-how from J&J internal sectors and external scientific/ technological institutions, and building creative and objective R&D programs.

Qualifications


This position requires a MD or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering or other Science with in-depth understanding of the fundamental science about diabetes, diabetes care and practice, drug discovery and development, and general regulatory guidelines for medicinal products and device. The successful candidate should have more than 10 years’ experience in discovery/translational research or clinical development in the pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device or adjacent technology industry. Experience in leadership positions and ability to build cross-discipline collaborations are essential. He/she should have good business acumen, a visionary and innovative thinker with ability to work in unstructured environment, and ability to synthesize, evaluate, and integrate innovative ideas and develop them into actionable plans with built-in objectives and deliverables. This position may require up to 15% annual travel (domestic and international).
