The Director, Global Software Project and Release Management is responsible for planning and governing software project management standards and governance, including oversight and governance of Release Management processes. Working closely with Business Unit IT PMO offices, and Release Management area in BUIT, as well as and Infrastructure Release and Change Management. The role sets the strategic and operational direction for IT software project and release management.

RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Plans and implements global standardization and governance of software project and release and change management processes. This role will establish and drive performance against a set of key performance metrics for software project management and release and change management disciplines.
- Establish the strategic direction for software project management governance, release and change management governance within IT, working with each of the GOC representatives, internal and external development teams;
- Defines and executes the software project management, software release and change processes in alignment with other processes: Oversees and measures the day-to-day activities of the Release Planning and Project Management governance processes, driving defect reduction efforts.
- Drives deployment and maintenance of a software project Center of Competency addressing questions for structuring project plans, maintenance and refresh of Project artifacts.
- Assess PM and Release Management needs and competencies and driving efforts to address competency gaps to increase productivity and ultimately project success rates.
- Develops training strategy and project management certification efforts across IT. Working closely with IT Corporate training.
- Stays abreast and introduces leading edge processes and thinking in the Project Management and Release Management realms if appropriate.

Qualifications


A minimum of a BS in Computer Science, MIS or Management from an accredited University is required. Certification required for at least one of the following: PMP, PMBOK, SEI’s or CMMI. A minimum of 15 years of overall professional experience is required with a minimum of 10 years in escalating leadership roles in a software development environment is required.

Extensive and demonstrable knowledge and practice of Project Management and Release Management processes across the software development life cycle, across several technology platforms is required. Strong experience defining and implementing continuous improvement processes based on Six Sigma methodology is preferred.

Strong relationship and consensus building skills both directly and indirectly in a highly matrix environment is required. Patience and perseverance in developing best practices for process improvement is required. Extensive knowledge of all standards within the software delivery process is required. Strong influencing skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability delivering exceptional customer service in a fast paced, high pressure environment is required.

Ability to strategically develop long term plans executing short term objectives to achieve groundbreaking, mature results with a calm, focused demeanor is required. Working collaboratively is a critical success factor for this position with the ability to work independently when appropriate. Working knowledge of application and infrastructure validation policies, project management tools and methodologies, procedures, work instructions, forms and templates is required. Very strong influencing and communication skills, both verbal and written and both at business and technical levels is required.
