Category Manager External Manufacturing (m/f)
Crucell relies heavily on external partners to manufacture medicines (Crucell intellectual property) for use in clinical trials. As a result Procurement’s Business Partners are continuously evaluating best in class sources for high quality drug manufacture (formulation, fill, finish, distribution).
The Category Manager (CM) will effectively and efficiently negotiate, contract and maintain relationships with suppliers and partners in this area and interact intensively with Crucell and Janssen internal business partners to meet these outsourcing needs, all in line with Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Credo, Purchasing Ethics and Healthcare Compliance Guidelines.
Main responsibilities:

support specification (Scope of Work) activities while driving the end to end contracting process with suppliers through completion from the initial Request for Proposal through bid analysis, negotiation of pricing and contract terms, coordination of Purchase requisitioning, entry of contracts into a tracking-database and facilitation of Health Care Compliance approval;

responsible for leading cross-functional teams through a comprehensive Category process;

develop interdependent partnerships with other Category and procurement groups as required;
-
together with the internal business partners, identify, select and manage appropriate suppliers, and demonstrate value contribution through optimized cycle times, negotiated savings, etc;
-
work with J&J Legal as necessary to review contract terms and conditions and advise business partners in order to reach acceptable outcomes;
-
lead/conduct contract negotiations on terms and conditions of high-risk, complex, and potentially long-term agreements and escalate specific points of contention on legal and business issues to appropriate management;

exercise decisions based on analysis of supplier proposals and in partnership with internal business partners;
-
find creative ways to avoid/solve problems in order to manage the supplier relationship and ensure flawless execution of clinical on-going study or study-related activities.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in life sciences or business is required and an advanced degree such as MBA or PhD is desirable.
A minimum of 3 year experience in the pharmaceutical / biotech industry is required.
Experience with negotiating contracts as a user or provider of outsourced services is a must.
Knowledge of the R&D processes (Vaccines, Pharmaceuticals) is highly desirable.
The successful candidate should be strongly pro-active and be an independent self-starter. The candidate must have the ability to deal with all levels of an organization, have excellent communication and presentation skills and be knowledgeable of procurement / contracting systems and processes. The candidate must have demonstrated skills in developing strong business relationships with business partners and suppliers and have a track record of interdependent partnerships with internal stakeholder groups including other Procurement groups. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a matrixed environment while supporting specific teams and/or projects.
The position will be located in Leiden, The Netherlands or Beerse, Belgium. Travel of approximately 10% is expected. Reporting line will be into the Janssen R&D Procurement Department (Global), Research category team, located in the US.
