McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc is currently recruiting for a Staff Engineer, Package Development located in Fort Washington, PA.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. markets a broad range of over-the-counter products, including TYLENOL® acetaminophen products, ZYRTEC® and BENADRYL® allergy medicines, IMODIUM® A-D anti-diarrheal, MOTRIN® IB, and SUDAFED® nasal decongestants.
Package Engineering is responsible for the life cycle management of the material and structural aspects of package. This function is also key in integrating the requirements of the product, equipment, Marketing and Supply Chain strategies to ultimately deliver a robust packaging system to the market.
The Staff Engineer, Package Development is responsible for providing technical expertise in the areas of design, development, testing and production scale-up of new packaging component and systems. The individual provides departmental technical experience and leadership for package development while collaborating with research and development, marketing, market research, supply chain, process excellence and other affiliated departments and organizations to identify and address packaging needs.
This position plans and executes key package engineering assignments concerned with large life cycle management initiatives. Leads complex packaging projects related to Brand maintenance or expansion, cost saving initiatives, innovative package development, and environment goals. Has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments. Determines and coordinates physical testing to ensure product and package integrity for manufacturing through end users. Leads troubleshooting in the resolution of packaging related issues in manufacturing and the field. Develops recommendations on general packaging guidelines and standards for processes and functional requirements. Executes packaging projects in compliance with government and corporate guidelines. Contributes to the company with inventions, new designs, processes or techniques which are lead to the resolution of problems. Executing package line trials and package testing is required for this position as well as executing package development documentation including development, writing, gaining cross-functional alignment, and routing for approval. Having experience taking a technical lead on projects is preferred.

Qualifications
A minimum BS in Packaging Sciences or Engineering or a related field is required. A minimum of 7 years of industry experience is required with at least 4 years of Package Development experience. Specific experience within the Consumer, OTC, or Pharmaceutical industry is preferred. GMP experience is preferred. Experience in a highly regulated environment is preferred. Strong technical knowledge related to package materials, equipment, testing and package development is required. Ability to work in a cross functional environment relating to R&D, Marketing, Operations, Sales, etc is required. Previous experience focusing on managing technical processes and projects is required. Proficiency in MS Office applications is required, especially with Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in customer focus, program/project management, accountability, process orientation, and strategic thinking is required.
Experience in process excellence and process thinking and application of tools is preferred. Six Sigma or Process Excellence certification is preferred. Excellent negotiation skills, ability to effectively work with peers, strong leadership and analytical skills, and proven business acumen are required. Establish project success criteria and monitor activities required. This position will be based in Ft. Washington, PA and may require up to 25% travel both domestic and international.
