The CDTL for early development projects provides leadership to a cross-functional compound development team beginning at NME entry, and drives the development and execution of the compound strategy, working in close partnership with the Discovery Project Leader. Further, the CDTL champions the compound/product at all levels of J&J and is responsible for managing the alignment on communication on all CDT matters, as appropriate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Actively contributes to Compound Strategy decision-making
- Ensuring relevant research, analysis, and expertise are available
- Rapidly integrates data across functions to drive efficient decision making
- Leads CDT in partnership with line functions and Disease Area Stronghold (DAS) to successfully develop the compound such that its value is maximized over its lifecycle while costs and time are minimized
- Builds team effectiveness, and leads the CDT to achieve its goals through the networks of people/functions represented on the team
- Negotiates with function heads on functional deliverables
- builds and fosters external investigator relationships including pre-clinical and correlative clinical collaborative studies
- Challenges all functions on CDT to ensure that all issues and questions are being addressed
- Identifies potential issues and leads contingency planning and problem solving
- Accountable for overall budget and project plan deliverables
- Align goals and objectives with CDT members, coach and guide CDT members and to provide input for performance evaluation of CDT members.

- Candidate most hold a PhD, MD or M.D./Ph.D with minimum of 8-10 years experience in a leadership role as a part of a research-driven pharmaceutical company.
- demonstrated a solid understanding of and involvement in the entire drug development process but experience in leading clinical development programs with an emphasis on phase I/II development is preferred.
- have proven ability to work cross-functionally with interdisciplinary teams to access and optimize resources for development programs
- experience working in a matrix organization
- proven track-record building and maintaining productive translational medicine collaborations to support a clinical development strategy
- business orientated, having managed resources and budgets
- proven record of leading projects trough successful transition from Discovery to Early Development and advancement of projects through preclinical and clinical development to Phase 2b
- Excellent communication (English & mandarin) and leadership skills are a must
- strong track record of producing results in a matrix-based environment is essential
- must have a strong scientific foundation in liver disease drug discovery and have demonstrated to effectively partner with expert investigators to drive clinical development
This is a role that should be filled by a high performing individual in the organization who demonstrates outstanding leadership, influence, and communication skills. Strong problem solving skills for developing creative solutions and meeting project objectives is required. Strong project planning and tracking skills. Demonstrated ability for strategic thinking and contingency planning.
Expert knowledge of the drug development process and familiarity with pharmaceutical portfolio risk management is required. Must understand requirements for successful commercialization of a new product.
