Senior Scientist Biochemistry (Viral Vaccines) (m/f)
Department/Project:
The sub-unit vaccine design team is part of the Viral vaccine Department of Crucell and focuses on the design, development and evaluation of novel vaccines. The new group covers the development stage starting from protein design and in vitro characterization of proteins and novel vaccine platforms. Later preclinical testing of vaccine leads is performed in close collaboration with preclinical evaluation team. The focus lies on the design of candidate vaccines and development and optimization of novel innovative methodologies aiming at increasing the efficacy of current and future vaccines.
Job Description:
The senior scientist will be responsible for the design, production and characterization of novel protein vaccine leads. Since the area is viral vaccine development this focuses primarily on viral surface proteins and currently HIV and RSV are our main targets. The Senior Scientist will work in a multidisciplinary environment and have a main focus on the generation of novel protein designs and to characterize these on a range of biochemical and biophysical parameters. The candidate will not only be responsible for his / her own projects but is also required to act as a subject matter expert and assist with structural evaluation and structure-based design of future immunogens for the entire department. Therefore prior experience with modelling and macromolecule crystallography is favoured. Because all research projects are carried out in teams comprising members from all the departments of viral vaccines teamwork and flexibility are two very important characteristics that are required attributes.

Kwalificaties
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent experience and at least 5 years of Postdoc experience in a relevant discipline such as biochemistry, crystallography or related fields.
Previous experience in crystallography, mammalian protein expression and characterization, bioinformatics and biochemical/physical assay development is regarded as a must. Additionally prior experience in the field of virology will be considered a plus.

The candidate fit for the job is independent, flexible, motivated and enjoys working in a team. Excellent organizational and communication skills, creativity and a strong scientific mindset are key for this position.
