Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C. is currently recruiting for an IT Director – R&D, Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing Sciences (PDMS). This position can be located in Raritan, New Jersey OR Malvern, Pennsylvania OR Beerse, Belgium. International travel up to 25% may be required.

This position leads and manages a department of Managers and Analysts which provides IT strategy leadership, business consultancy, portfolio management, domain architecture, program/project management and information technology-related services. Through ongoing consultation with the business, the incumbent identifies and analyzes business needs, works with department members to ensure scope and requirements are aligned to business needs, and create opportunities for innovation in process changes and/or technology-enabled solutions. He/she oversees department members who lead and manage projects and programs, and may also lead and manage large IS programs him/herself. Program and Project Management is accountable for end to end delivery across the IT value chain. He/she is also accountable for all IT services provided to the business.
Specific responsibilities include: Participate in strategic planning with business partners; Contributes to the development of IT strategy to enable business outcomes; Forms strong partnerships with business stakeholders; proactively managing expectations; Identifies opportunities to significantly enhance business performance, including opportunities or synergies that involve new technologies; Evaluates new, emerging technologies against business needs and leads the introduction of technology innovation into the business process; Optimizes a business solutions technology portfolio and advises business partners on approaches to maximize value (e.g., retirements, upgrades, leveraging opportunities, functionality extensions); Analyzes complex business strategies, competitive issues and/or change initiatives, discerning their implications for multiple initiatives and programs.
Additional responsibilities include: Manages the planning and execution of projects – covering all the Project Management phases including budget and resource management including external partners; Proactively manages potential conflicts that may arise on project including risk, quality, scope, schedule, and cost. Identifies risks and develops strategies to ensure appropriate risk mitigation; Monitor and measure the performance of top programs ensuring the performance and recovery of any troubled programs or projects are met; Mentor and develop talent (within functional and matrix area of responsibility); Interface into Janssen Supply Chain IT.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in IT Management or related field. An advanced degree is preferred. A minimum of 8 years of experience with a proven track record of project delivery and business relationship management is required. A minimum of 5 years of IT experience is required. Previous people leadership experience is required. Previous experience in strategic planning and driving business planning process is required. Understanding of R&D development processes and working knowledge of Pharmaceutical Development and Clinical Supply Management business is required. Understanding of one or more of the following is preferred: s88/s95 batch processing standards, Batch control processing/automation, enterprise control systems, GLP/GCP/GMP requirements.
Candidate must have highly effective communication skills and ability to communicate highly technical information suitable for diverse audiences. Must be able to work with high degree of ambiguity in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Additional required skills include interdependent partnering, collaboration and teaming, sense of urgency and ability to acclimate quickly to new process and technologies. Must be able to effectively manage virtual teams. Must have a big picture orientation with attention to detail and be able to link and translate strategy into actionable plans.
