The Senior Scientist is responsible for conducting advanced PK/PD modeling research with emphasis on translational disease progression modeling and implementation of mechanism-based approaches. This individual supports product development as Model Based Drug Development (MBDD) scientist by defining the dose-concentration-pharmacological effect relationships of drugs using modeling and simulation methodologies from data acquired at early stages of drug research and development. S/he performs basic preclinical and clinical disease research, with a focus on Oncology, Immunology and/or Infectious Diseases compounds. S/he performs population and / or appropriate PK and PK/PD analysis to guide drug development. The Senior Scientist uses state-of-the-art computer modeling and simulation techniques to formulate various preclinical and clinical trial design scenarios and outcome analyses. This individual actively maintains relationships and collaborates with colleagues within or outside the MBDD organization and J&J at large. S/he is responsible for scientific and technical matters pertaining to his/her field. The successful candidate will represent MBDD on Teams, advancing PK/PD and disease modeling principles, as well as mechanism-based concepts and processes.
Qualifications
A minimum of a MS or PhD with 3-5 years of relevant industry experience in Pharmaceutical Sciences, (Clinical) Pharmacology, Physiology or Chemical/Biomedical Engineering is required. The successful candidate has a minimum of 2-5 years of pharmaceutical development experience or at least 3-5 years of post-doctoral experience in the various aspects of modeling and simulation. Hands-on experience with the population approach in describing PK/PD systems using clinical pharmacology data is required. A working knowledge of preclinical or clinical pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, PK/PD modeling principles and statistics is required. Experience with NONMEM, R and/or other modeling and simulation software is desirable. The successful candidate should have an interest in planning, conducting, evaluating and reporting PK/PD studies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Experience in in the Oncology, Immunology and/or Infectious Diseases is required. The position is located in La Jolla, CA and may require <10% travel.
