The Solution Architect is responsible for the definition and guidance of infrastructure architecture direction in alignment with business objectives. He/she ensures that new IT investments comply with agreed J&J IT global standards. The successful candidate will have a generic applications design and integration background and is familiar with Enterprise Architecture at all levels. The candidate will have strong and broad knowledge of IT infrastructure as well as specific platforms, including factory systems (ex. CAMSTAR, Werum, LIMS/Labware, Empower and Wonderware) ERP-, CRM- and web-platforms.
The candidate will have senior-level architecture, design, and development responsibilities for globally scalable, operationally sustainable information technology infrastructure solutions, with subject matter expertise focused on Enterprise servers, database platforms, virtualization, cloud, application servers, networking (WAN, LAN, isolated computing environments), storage infrastructure (SAN, NAS and backup environment), and associated management software and J&J IT's evolving hardware standards. He/she is required to develop high-level system / functional specifications and to identify the business requirements that drive them. This includes collaborating with IT/SS and BU/IT specialists / engineers, translating customer requirements and functional specifications into detailed technical requirements, and developing those solutions.
This position will lead teams to provide technology lifecycle capabilities, architecture, design, development, engineering, deployment, and third-tier support. The successful candidate must have senior level subject matter expertise and related experience with the HP-UX, Linux, Windows, X86 and IA64 hardware, VMware Virtualization, storage products (HP-XP, HP-EVA, NAS, etc.), backup infrastructure, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database platforms, open source and commercial web- and application-platforms, SAP ERP-platform and associated management tools. Familiarity with J&J IAPP requirements and information security practices is mandatory. Knowledge of business continuity and disaster recovery methodologies and best practices is required.
The Solution Architect works closely with the Project Manager in the design, planning and governance of implementation of projects in the region. He/She ensures that the Solution Architects become involved with projects at the time of inception and remain involved throughout the project life cycle.
GENERAL RESPONSIBLITIES
1. Business Planning and General Management
- Develop relationships and become an information conduit between IT IS engineering teams, BUIT and enterprise architecture functions
- Meet with technical and business leaders to identify and scope the business opportunities and identify potential risks and constraints
- Implement effective Infrastructure architecture directions
- Take ownership of solution offering
- Develop and execute a solution strategy and business plan that support business growth
- Shape design packages to drive efficient delivery of solutions
2. Subject Matter Expertise
- Act as visionary and strategist for solution product areas, including but not limited to HP-UX, Linux, Windows, X86 and IA64 hardware, VMware Virtualization, storage products (HP-XP, HP-EVA, NAS, etc.), backup infrastructure, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database platforms, open source and commercial web- and application-platforms, SAP ERP-platform and associated management tools.
- Provide architecture and process advice, planning guidance, quality assurance, and guidance to all levels of organizations on project approach and solutions;
- Translate J&J IAPP and Strategic Standards Board policies into IT solutions that meet or exceed BUIT requirements
- Decompose the opportunities into constituent solutions, with re-usable components
- Identify new areas where business value can be generated by further standardizing and leveraging solutions across
- Evaluate new technology, processes and architectural trends and highlight possible business opportunities
- Survey market landscape for solution insights, direction, vendors, and methods
- Provides expertise to identify and translate system requirements into design documentation
3. Methodology and Quality Assurance
- Use and advocate the use of architecture and design best practices, methodologies, and procedures for optimized application delivery
- Harvest intellectual property from engagements or solutions that can be developed into best practices for reuse
- Lead development of formalized solution methodologies
- Document current IT architecture and define the future state architecture based on identified solution gaps, and create the roadmaps to implement;
- Provide architecture and process advice, planning guidance, quality assurance, and guidance to all levels of organizations on project approach and solutions;
- Provide quality assurance for services within the solution area
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years of IT experience, including development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale integrated IT solutions across multiple hardware and software platforms; significant experience and knowledge in new computing architectures and implementation of networked computing structures emphasizing the PC
- At least eight years of experience in project management and execution involving multiple major development projects
- Five or more years of management experience in which one or more of the following occurred:
- Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership with strong abilities in relationship management
- Successfully developed and implemented applications in new computing architecture environments using new and emerging technologies
- Established a track record of managing technical staff through various life-cycle phases (cross-functional experience highly desirable)
- Demonstrated leadership of global multidiscipline, high-performance work teams/groups
- Managed financial resources to meet goals and multiple projects
- Demonstrated high competency in project management and the execution of multiple large projects, including managing resources across multiple projects to meet goals
- Developed efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems
- At least 5 years of experience supporting Sales and/or Marketing/commercial and web-based applications and partnering with Sales and/or Marketing leadership in one or more of the J&J sectors
- Must already be located in Asia/Pacific Regions and open to future relocation opportunities within that region and/or EMEA
- Ability to travel 25% - 50%.
