Johnson & Johnson International is recruiting for a Director, Environment Health Safety & Sustainability. This position is based in New Brunswick, NJ with consideration for any J&J location globally.

The Director, Environment Health Safety & Sustainability- Standardized Solutions assures complete and consistent implementation of initiatives intended to prevent injuries, protect the environment and conserve natural resources. Designs and implements deployment strategies that support a vision of a standardized and harmonized approach across the enterprise. This individual combines a broad understanding of EHS& risks with strong influence, collaboration and communication skills to successfully embed effective and consistent control strategies across our diverse collection of businesses, cultures and countries. Current program examples include: the global deployment of a common framework for safety culture across J&J Supply Chain, a common platform for System-based Ownership (SBO) of EHS&S processes and a standardized approach to safe behavior.
The Director, EHS&S Standardized Solutions must work with leaders and staff in all parts of our business to effectively implement consistent solutions. S/he must drive standardized and harmonized approaches across the globe to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in diverse cultures and countries. This individual must collaborate effectively with a wide variety of operating company personnel, ranging from site-based manufacturing staff to organizational leaders. S/he will assemble and facilitate work groups that create proposals to control a wide variety of EHS&S risks and offer recommendations to various leadership teams: site-level leadership teams; regional EHS&S Leadership Team; global EHS&S Leadership Team; sector MAKE leadership teams; MAKE Council; Supply Chain Leadership Team, etc. S/he will work closely with EHS&S regional and campus leaders, sector and platform Single Points of Contact (SPOCs), leadership team members and various business leaders to flawlessly implement approved programs.
Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the EHS&S Leadership Team, assess organizational needs and develop a global strategy to enhance our ability to prevent injuries, protect the environment and conserve natural resources. Translate elements of the EHS&S strategy into tactical objectives over a multi-year period. Assemble and facilitate work teams to develop program elements. Create clear and concise proposals for consideration by various leadership teams, including financial and staffing needs. Deliver compelling presentations that influence leaders to approve and support proposed programs. Create and communicate implementation plans in collaboration with EHS&S regional and campus leaders, taking into account business priorities and cultural sensitivities. Develop well-written play books, promotional materials and tool kits plus a comprehensive communication plan to support a global launch and effective engagement of all stakeholders. Develop metrics to monitor effectiveness of new and enhanced programs. Connect with external partners to benchmark prevention strategies and identify emerging issues.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required. A Science, engineering or related EHS discipline/degree is preferred. A minimum of 12+ years of progressive experience in Environment Health Safety & Sustainability is required, with demonstrated knowledge and experience controlling the broad spectrum of EHS&S risks in manufacturing and R&D environments. The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment preventing injuries, protecting the environment and conserving natural resources. S/he will have significant experience leading EHS&S professionals as direct reports and in building productive collaborative relationships through indirect/dotted-line reporting. Experience controlling a comprehensive array of EHS&S risks is required with application across all sectors of the Johnson & Johnson business being strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be a strong communicator & influencer who is credible, self-assured and highly capable of negotiating successful outcomes with key business leaders. S/he will have strong technical skills and the ability to explain complex issues and requirements in an easily understood manner. S/he will apply previous learning and ideas to new situations, projects and teams, developing creative solutions to manage risk while balancing costs. S/he will demonstrate strong business acumen that includes experience working with leaders at all levels of the organization. Ability to manage multiple demands simultaneously and to collaborate in a matrixed, team-oriented environment is required. Highly developed interpersonal and cross-cultural skills are required to partner well with associates at all levels and functions across our global enterprise. Strong written and oral English communication skills are required. Excellent demonstrated project management skills are required, including the ability to lead teams, produce and maintain project schedules and budgets, create dashboards and track metrics, and assemble project information into clearly written reports that document findings & recommendations and communicate progress. Demonstrated experience in building competency and awareness of EHS&S issues through training, public speaking, and presentations to teams at all levels of the organization is required. Must have the ability to building consensus and impact outcome without always having line authority; able to negotiate trade-off decisions across the organization. Change management and project management experience is an asset. This position will require up to 25% travel, with the potential for international travel.
