The Senior Product Development Engineer will have a focus on the development of new patient specific and/or surgeon-specific instruments and implants. This will be in addition to the design and development of standard new instruments and implants. Utilizing engineering and project management skills, this position will involve the development and validation of new systems, processes, and software for the creation of patient-specific implants. The position will also require primary communication with surgeons and sales force, understanding clinical issues, defining the design parameters to support AO philosophies, and ensuring a quality product is delivered to the customer.

The Senior Product Development Engineer assumes the trainer/mentor role for associate PD engineers or new PD engineers in the product development process which includes verification and validation activities of the medical devices, and the software / systems that support the devices. This can include mechanical testing protocols, cadaver or animal lab protocols, and software testing. Works closely with manufacturing facilities and external vendors to manufacture of medical devices.

Identifies and investigates new technologies and projects with the guidance of the Group Manager and/or VP of Research and Development. Conceptualizes new implant and instrument design based upon current surgical trends and needs. Responsible for development of high impact projects within the group. Coordinates and leads special tasks assigned by Group Manager and VP of R&D (i.e. creation of design or manufacturing standards, investigation of external partners, sales force or training presentations, etc.).

Held accountable as designated independent engineer within the department and for other groups and departments as necessary for design reviews and technology transfer. Perform verification/validation activity reviews for the group and department assuring patient, FDA, and surgeon requirements are met for a quality product. Establish and maintain relationships with experts in the field (i.e. surgeons, research scientists, metallurgists, IT, etc.). Maintain awareness of surgical trends through involvement with or support of AO expert groups within the TK system. Know and follow all laws and policies that apply to one's job, and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times. Diligently participate in our compliance program-related activities as denoted by your supervisor or our Chief Compliance Officer.

Qualifications


To be considered for the role a minimum of a Bachelor degree in Engineering is required. An Advanced degree in Engineering is desired. A minimum of 6 years experience in the design and development of mechanical products, including multi-component systems is required. A demonstrated success in leading project team from concept through introduction according to project plan is required. An advanced knowledge of Pro/Engineer and its design modules is desired. Has a high level understanding of computerized design tools and IT systems is desired. Skilled in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and its application is desired. Skilled in project management tools and techniques is required. Demonstrated exceptional creative design and problem solving ability is required. Demonstrated exceptional understanding of orthopedic surgery and the operating room environment is desired. Excellent communication and interaction skills, especially when describing technical concepts to surgeons, sales personnel, and senior management. Must be able to work independently, provide multiple solutions to problems and make systems work together. Must possess strong leadership qualities.

This position will be based in West Chester, PA and requires up to 10% travel, with a potential for international travel.
