The Crucell Vaccine Institute is part of the Janssen Center of Excellence for Immunoprophylaxis in La Jolla, CA. Our Innovation and Discovery team is focused on identifying and developing vaccines and immunotherapies to address unmet medical needs for the prevention and treatment of infectious and non-infectious diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases.

We are searching for an Associate Scientist to join our diverse team to play a key role in characterizing and evaluating the in vivo efficacy of immunoprophylactic candidates.
The qualified applicant is a conscientious and diligent scientist, who is eager to establish new techniques and methods and able to work well as an integral team member. Key responsibilities include the execution of scientific plans, careful recording of experimental data, and timely and clear reporting of progress and results. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining a detailed and well-organized notebook.
Qualifications
A B.S. in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field is required as is a minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on laboratory experience in industry or academia. At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with rodents and/or performing small animal surgeries is strongly preferred but not required. It is required that the qualified candidate is highly skilled in accessioning, processing, and embedding tissues. S/he will be highly skilled in producing high quality thin paraffin and frozen sections. S/he will be highly skilled in performing routine and special stains. S/he should have working knowledge in the maintenance and operation of cryostats and/or microtomes and/or fluorescent microscopes. Familiarity with image analysis software such as ImageJ, Image-Pro, Amira, and/or MetaMorph is a major plus. The successful candidate should have previous experience working as an individual contributor within a team environment to support program goals and objectives. The position is located in La Jolla, CA and may require minimal travel <5%.
