Johnson & Johnson is seeking an experienced Patent Docket Specialist to be located at World Headquarters located in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
The Patent Docket Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks. Maintenance of the official patent office correspondence in an electronic patent database. Review electronic and hard copy communications and docket new deadlines and update patent records in database. Coordination of Office Actions and related materials to attorneys. Create newly acquired patent matters in database. Coordinate, docket, and update outside counsel material in database. Assist in quality assurance review for patent filings by noting and referring any discrepancies or omissions observed during docketing. Create database queries and prepare reports for management, attorneys and staff
The Patent Docket Specialist will communicate with paralegals, in-house counsel, outside counsel, liaisons, foreign associates and staff regarding docketing and prosecution matters as required. The responsibilities listed here are general in nature and may not include all of the requirements for this position.
Qualifications
A college degree, paralegal certification, or equivalent-type education or experience is required. A minimum of 5 years of patent-related docketing experience is required. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel are required. PowerPoint is preferred. Experience using an electronic patent database is required; preferably Memotech. An understanding of patent docketing procedures and patent laws are required. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively work with all levels of company management, inventors, outside counsel and the United States Patent & Trademark Office, under minimum supervision of patent attorneys is required. Must be capable of handling all aspects of patent docketing, including PCT, national phase and direct filings are required. Must be a self-starter with the ability to organize and manage a heavy workload, including flexibility to aid in assigned projects. Strong teamwork and organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail are required. Irregular hours may be required and may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
