The IT Director, Strategy Development – Infrastructure Services is the owner of the infrastructure technology strategy for the enterprise. The Director collaborates with business unit (BU) IT to obtain their needs, strategies and portfolios as well as other IT IS leaders (e.g., Solution Architecture, Engineering and Operations). Along with this knowledge of business needs and internal capabilities, the Director adds broad technology expertise, knowledge of industry trends and the latest technology offerings to create a vision for the future of infrastructure technology in the enterprise, and a roadmap to realize that vision. The roadmap will include specific capabilities needed by GOC projects, as well as broader technology capabilities (like data center automation and configuration management across multiple hosting paradigms) that enable all initiatives in the enterprise. The Director’s group is recognized as experts in key technology platforms (server, storage, database, network) and partners with a variety of application groups to develop solutions that meet business needs. The Director will drive life cycle management (application and technology) processes, tools and enablers, partnering with BU’s and IT IS configuration management groups and others as needed, which will link business process, application inventory and underlying technology infrastructure into an integrated view. The Director will become familiar with key BU projects and, as needed, provide architectural guidance regarding existing standards and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Collaborate with Business Unit (BU) IT and IT IS leaders to develop and address pipeline of demand for platforms and services; Develop and communicate roadmaps for new capabilities (such as software-defined data center) and their applicability to portfolio planning; Direct the development of technology architectures that meet prioritized business needs. Ensure that all architecture blueprints mesh together for overall value to the enterprise.
Understand business strategy, technology marketplace and apply vision to create future technology capability roadmap; Understand BU strategies, priorities and portfolios; Call out linkages between initiatives in a broad portfolio. Identify key strategic technology enablers for business priorities.
Drive enterprise xLM (Lifecyle Management) process development and harmonization; Understand technology implications of key BU projects, and provide guidance and/or high level artifacts as needed; Partner with other IT IS leaders so that service offerings developed from technology strategy are easily usable by BU’s and address their technology, cost and time to market requirements.
Understand tactical pain points that span technology silos and processes. Partner with BU’s and other IT IS groups to solve; Meet or exceed customer requirements with respect to time to market, cost efficiency & business value. Engage IT IS executives as needed to develop sponsorship of strategic initiatives. Lead, influence and negotiate to achieve GOC and IT IS goals. Provide mentoring and coaching to junior team members & develop talent pipeline.
Qualifications
A BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience is required, preferably in IT or related technical field. Advanced degree or equivalent work experience is preferred. A minimum of 15 years with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (four years), or a minimum of 12 years with an advanced degree or equivalent experience (six years) is required.
A minimum of 5 years of broad and deep understanding of multiple infrastructure technologies (such as server, storage, network and databases) is required. Experience in developing technology solution designs (including high availability and disaster recovery) is required. Proven track record of end-to-end engagement with business partners, from requirements gathering to solution design to project implementation is required. Proven track record of establishing technology strategy and roadmap that address business capabilities and exploit leading edge technology is required. Understanding of emerging technologies and best practices, and incorporating those into a strategic vision of how technology can drive business value is required.
Ability to develop customer relationships, engender trust and be recognized as a valued partner is required. Executive presence and communication experience with senior level management (VP and senior VP level) is required. Proven track record of eliciting positive feedback from senior executives, and being invited to join the leadership teams of business partners is required.
A minimum of 5 years of people management and development experience and passion is required. Experience managing external consultants and vendors is required. Demonstrated understanding and management of financial processes and results related to projects, departmental budgets, and/or enterprise is required.
Experience working with internal IT processes, such as ITIL processes and CAR (Capital Authorization Request) approvals, and delivering timely business results is required. Understanding of IT IS service delivery processes is preferred. Ability to effect change in a highly matrixed organization is required.
